[Alex] developed what he phone calls a light to noise converter. It reacts in a different way depending upon the type of light: remote controls, light bulbs, TV screens, etc. A photodiode is utilized with an amplifier to pick up the light change. That signal is dumped with a double opamp. He swapped in a number of different kinds of photodiodes as well as settled on the BPW34 meant for visible light. He’ll be integrating this into a much larger project.
