Unfortunately, the story of iPhones, or undoubtedly any other high-end smartphone being stolen is not a new one, and if you walk around a large city long enough, you will encounter street theft eventually.
While thieves operate seemingly anywhere though, not lots of operate at the kind of scale one group of Romanian thieves did when they allegedly pilfered over $590,000 worth of iPhones from a moving truck. That’s right: a truck that was moving.
As reported by Dutch news outlet ED, the group has been carrying out similar daring raids on trucks considering that 2015, with no fewer than seventeen trucks apparently having fallen prey to the group that we suspect has seen The fast & The Furious one too lots of times! According to reports, a group of men aged from 33 to 43 were arrested on Saturday at a holiday park in Otterlo, with iPhones and a van that said to have been used in the heist also at the same address.
The whole thing was done by following a truck closely, with the perpetrators standing on the bonnet and getting access to the truck’s cargo thanks to the help of a non-slip mat.
They allegedly tailgated the automobile before one of them climbed onto the bonnet of their van and broke into the truck in front of them.
Boxes of iPhones were then passed back through the van’s roof.
The theft took place on the night of 24 July, on the A73 motorway near Horst.
Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any recorded video of all this going down, which is a crying shame, really. While we absolutely do not endorse such actions, we have to hand it to someone ready to go to such absurd and hazardous lengths for anything. We just wish it didn’t involve stealing luxury goods! The Romanian police did put together a demo video of the method used in the heists, which you can view below.
